INFERTILITY Pt II

The Unsuspected Thyroid

Another undiagnosed epidemic in the infertility department is hypothyroidism. Of course they checked your thyroid and everything was “normal”. Normal doesn’t mean healthy. Let me explain “normal” to you.

Throughout the year, people go to their doctor for various complaints. Your doctor runs blood work and the information is collected. After a year, those numbers are put into a system and that system creates the “averages” for bloodwork. Thus, sick people create the “normal” numbers.

On the 2nd, 3rd and 4th day of menstruation, take your underarm temperature. If below 97.8,  your thyroid is underactive.

When your thyroid is underactive, it doesn’t produce enough of certain hormones. It can can interfere with the release of an egg from your ovary (ovulation),  which impairs fertility.

In addition, some of the underlying causes of hypothyroidism — such as certain autoimmune or pituitary disorders — may impair fertility.

If you have hypothyroidism and become pregnant, it is critical to have healthy thyroid levels. This promotes healthy brain development (IQ) and may avoid miscarriages. Some children are born with loss of hearing due to hypothyroidism in the mother.

Many years ago when I started delving into thyroid health due to certain symptoms, I took this test. My thyroid numbers were always in the “normal” range. To my total unbelief, my temperature was 95.6. Since then many women have been blessed with babies who were formerly unable to conceive.

Removing endocrine disruptors so your thyroid hormones can communicate with your kidneys, liver and gut is critical. Thyroid hormones are converted in those three areas. You also need the precursors for the body to build hormones, that are provided mostly by your adrenal glands.

For the last several years everyone is telling you to take selenium. The truth is that the body cannot use selenium without a certain amount of Vitamin E. Taking synthetic vitamins? If the bottle specifically states e.g. 400 IU of vitamin E, you are taking a synthetic vitamin. Whole food organic supplements are quickly metabolized by the body. Synthetics not as much. They also cause stress on liver and kidneys.
